ARTICLE 8: DAY 5 - ASSISTING PATIENTS

On my fifth day of work immersion, I was more actively involved in assisting patients, which became one of the most meaningful parts of my experience. I helped guide patients to the laboratory, provided basic instructions, and ensured that they were comfortable while waiting for their procedures. Through this responsibility, I learned the importance of patience, compassion, and respect when dealing with people from different backgrounds.

Many patients appeared anxious or unsure, especially those undergoing laboratory tests for the first time. I realized that even simple gestures, such as giving clear directions or offering reassurance through a calm and polite attitude, could greatly improve their experience. This taught me that healthcare is not only about technical work but also about understanding the emotions and concerns of patients.

Assisting patients also helped me develop a stronger sense of responsibility. I became more mindful of my actions and words, knowing that they could affect how patients feel. This experience allowed me to practice empathy and professionalism in real-life situations.

And finally, at the end of the day, I felt fulfilled knowing that I was able to help others in my own small way. This experience strengthened my appreciation for healthcare workers and inspired me to continue developing both my skills and character.
